About Darkroom
Darkroom is the leading next-generation growth marketing firm engineering the brands of tomorrow. Founded in 2017, we set out to redefine what a modern agency could be, by replacing the inertia of legacy advertising behemoths with a model built for speed, intelligence, and measurable impact.
At our core, Darkroom is a human services company powered by Shadow, a universal AI commerce layer that integrates executive-level strategy with proprietary agentic technology. This fusion enables our teams to deliver outsized returns by enhancing creative output, operational efficiency, and revenue generation across every stage of the customer journey.
Our track record speaks for itself: billions in attributable revenue driven across e-commerce marketplaces, media networks, DTC ecosystems, and social commerce platforms. Every engagement feeds into our proprietary data infrastructure, enabling a continuous feedback loop that accelerates growth, improves margins, and compounds results across our client portfolio.
What began as a boutique design studio has evolved into one of the fastest-growing private companies in America (Inc. 5000) and among the most effective performance media agencies of the 2020s (Varos). Our founders were recognized by Forbes 30 Under 30 for advancing the intersection of technology, marketing, and advertising, cementing Darkroom's role as a defining player in the future of media innovation.
About the Role
This role owns email and lifecycle marketing across three properties: Shadow, Darkroom, and our CEO's personal newsletter. Our marketing team publishes a high volume of content across LinkedIn, X, Instagram, YouTube, a podcast, and a creator program, and very little of it has an email path behind it. You build that path and then run it.
Shadow is the priority. It needs a direct funnel that takes someone from a creator post or a LinkedIn post into an email sequence and through to a signup, and that funnel does not exist today. Darkroom is second: prospect and client nurture by service line, plus the biweekly newsletter. Third is the CEO's newsletter, where the job is turning a large LinkedIn and X audience into an owned list.
This is a B2B lifecycle role and that is the part we care about most. The purchase is considered, the cycle runs over weeks, and more than one person is involved in the decision. You will report to the VP of Marketing and work alongside a designer, a video editor, and a Marketing Ops & Social Media Manager who handles publishing and deployment, plus an AI analytics layer that handles dashboards. Design and video are not your job. You own the strategy, the flows, and the copy, and you run webinars and demo follow-up end to end, briefing the designer and video editor for the assets you need. This is a fully remote role supporting a team in the EST time zone, and we are hiring for it in Brazil, Portugal, and Spain.
Please note: this is a talent pool as we are not actively hiring for this role right now. Strong fits will be contacted once the role is open.
What You'll Do
Shadow Lifecycle (priority)
Build the direct funnel end to end: creator or LinkedIn post, to email capture, to nurture, to signup, instrumented so we know which content produces signups.
Own onboarding, activation, and product education sequences for new Shadow signups.
Run follow-up for demos, webinars, and launches, with the sequence built before the event rather than after it.
Darkroom and the CEO's Newsletter
Build prospect and client nurture by service line, so a lead from a case study or an event lands in a sequence that matches what brought them in.
Own the strategy behind the biweekly newsletter, working with the Marketing Ops Manager who deploys it.
Turn the CEO's LinkedIn and X audience into an owned list: capture, welcome sequence, cadence, and a format that holds attention.
Keep the sales team supplied with follow-up sequences they will actually use.
Lists, Copy, and Reporting
Own segmentation, list hygiene, deliverability, and compliance across all three properties.
Write your own copy. In this role the person who writes the email and the person who builds the flow are the same person.
Report on what each flow produces in signups and pipeline, not only in opens and clicks.
Document the flows so they live in a system the team can see and run.
What We're Looking For
A real understanding of B2B. This is the most important thing on this list. The job is moving someone from a first touch to a signup or a sales conversation over weeks, with several people involved in the decision.
Genuine experience building lifecycle or email programs yourself. Years matter less than whether you built the flows rather than briefing them to someone else.
Platform-agnostic. We use Substack today and may use Mailchimp, Klaviyo, HubSpot, or beehiiv depending on the property. Knowing how lifecycle marketing works matters more than knowing one tool.
Smart in a way that shows up in the work. You can look at a funnel, work out where people are dropping off, and write the email that fixes it.
Strong writing. Our voice is direct and specific, and you should be able to write in it unsupervised.
Able to work across three audiences in the same week: a software audience for Shadow, an agency buyer for Darkroom, and a personal brand audience for the newsletter.
AI-native. Our team works alongside AI for analytics, reporting, and drafting, and you should be excited to build workflows with it.
Comfortable owning the function from the ground up. Most of these flows do not exist yet.
Bonus Points
Hands-on ESP experience: Klaviyo, HubSpot, beehiiv, Substack, Mailchimp.
You have marketed a SaaS or software product to a business audience.
Agency, ecommerce, or performance marketing background.
You have built a newsletter or an owned audience of your own.
Familiarity with Notion, our operating layer.
Working at Darkroom
Darkroom is not a typical agency. We are looking for A players who want to build something great. We move fast, think deeply, and expect every team member to bring insight and rigor to everything they touch. We hold a high bar for performance, creativity, and ownership - but we also support each other relentlessly. No egos, no red tape - just world-class talent building something remarkable.
We believe in autonomy with accountability, truth over comfort, and outcomes over optics.
Unlimited PTO + Local holidays (Relevant to your hub): Rebooting is part of the work. Take the time you need to stay sharp.
Remote-First Culture: Many roles are fully remote. Employees based in or near our New York or Lisbon HQs are expected to work hybrid with weekly in-office time. Hub locations include the Brazil and Spain.
Parental Leave: Flexible parental leave to support new parents during this important transition.
Growth: Our interdisciplinary model gives every Darkroomer exposure far beyond their core role. Grow your skills, expand your influence, and stay at the forefront of the industry.
Equal Opportunity Statement
Darkroom is an equal opportunity workplace-we are dedicated to equal employment opportunities regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national orientation, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity, or Veteran status.
