Teaching opportunity for a teacher of English (to students of all ages) in Ávila.

Qualifications

There is nothing like a good EFL/ESOL training course to set you up for a career in this field (e.g. Trinity CertTESOL), but we do appreciate that some candidates may come from other teaching backgrounds and are happy to consider suitable applications.

Conditions

A full-time post would entail 22 contact hours in the classroom, the rest of the time being assigned to class preparation, admin and ongoing training. (Full-time = approx 24 hours per week) The teaching hours are normally spread across Monday-Thursday, morning and afternoon/evening, although there are also opportunities for work delivering Cambridge exams on Fridays and Saturdays. Overtime may be available, but cannot be guaranteed.

We could also consider a candidate for a part-time contract.

The initial contract will start with the induction week at the end of September, and ends towards the end of June, coinciding with the end of the academic year in local schools, which has yet to be published. Contracts are fijo-discontinuo, meaning that there should be work for you in future years. Classes run during local school terms, but may be available outside these dates too, but most teachers choose to enjoy the school holidays! No classes take place on bank holidays! Several teachers also work during the month of July, and the Heads of Studies return earlier in the month of September. The school is closed in August.

All teachers teach a range of ages and levels, and this contract will contain a significant number of hours teaching classes to primary-aged children, so experience is vital and non-negotiable. Likewise, candidates must have the appropriate current papers to work in Spain. We cannot process applications for work permits.

Salary & Benefits

We happily pay above the minimum salaries stipulated by the CONVENIO (the union-negotiated agreement for our professional sector), because we believe our teachers should be worth it. Beyond this philosophy, salaries are commensurate with relevant experience.
