Company Description

In March 2022, we founded NIMBLE Diagnostics, a MedTech spin-off out of three Catalan research institutes. Our mission is simple yet impactful: to minimize complications from medical implants and enhance patients' quality of life. Looking ahead, we aim to become the market leader in diagnostics for implanted devices, starting with cardiac stents.

NIMBLE is developing the WAEVE™ System, the first medical device using microwave interferometry (MWI) for continuous, non-invasive, and non-ionizing monitoring of patients with stents. MWI technology can diagnose stent status and related problems, regardless of the stent's type or location. The WAEVE™ System is in the clinical validation phase, with a planned launch in 2026-27.

Position

We are seeking a Research Engineer to join our company in our Telecommunications Laboratory and support the development of our internal stent signal library. This role will focus on the experimental characterization and analysis of the electromagnetic response of metallic stents, particularly damaged or degraded ones, across different measurement setups. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in RF measurements, signal acquisition, and electromagnetic signal interpretation, preferably in biomedical or materials-related applications. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a growing MedTech company at the intersection of telecommunications and healthcare innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct experimental measurements to analyze the electromagnetic behavior of coronary stents in various conditions and configurations.
  • Develop and maintain a structured internal library of electromagnetic signal profiles from different stents, including those with physical or structural degradation.
  • Support the design and execution of laboratory setups for electromagnetic signal acquisition, ensuring reproducibility and accuracy.
  • Process and analyze raw signal data using advanced techniques to identify relevant features, distortions, or patterns associated with stent conditions.
  • Collaborate with signal processing and hardware teams to refine measurement protocols and integrate findings into broader R&D workflows.
  • Contribute to technical documentation and internal reports detailing measurement procedures, results, and analytical conclusions.
Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • MSc or PhD (ongoing or completed) in Telecommunications Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with RF/laboratory instrumentation (e.g., vector network analyzers, signal generators, spectrum analyzers).
  • Familiarity with electromagnetic theory and signal behavior in metallic structures.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools such as MATLAB or Python.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to experimental detail.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications (Not Mandatory)

  • Prior experience working with biomedical signals, particularly in the context of metallic medical implants (e.g., pacemakers, prosthetics, stents).
  • Background in telecommunications engineering with expertise in wireless signal interference, multipath effects, and related challenges.
  • Experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques applied to signal processing and biomedical data.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards for medical devices and relevant electromagnetic safety protocols.
