Who we're looking for:
We are seeking a highly motivated and adaptable Tax Manager to join our team as an individual contributor. This role is ideal for a deeply technical tax professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You'll serve as a subject matter expert across income tax areas, supporting compliance, provision, and strategic initiatives.
In this role, you and your teammates will be responsible for Rover's federal, state, and local income taxes. You are intellectually curious, highly organized, and flexible, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and shifting priorities. You enjoy rolling up your sleeves to dive into technical details, while also stepping back to understand the broader business implications.
You're comfortable working in an environment where processes and calculations are not always fully defined, and you take initiative in building, refining, and scaling them over time. This role offers meaningful ownership and broad exposure across the tax function, providing a strong opportunity to build depth and breadth of experience in a dynamic, high-growth environment.
This is a hybrid position that has the minimum expectation to work out of our Downtown Seattle Office two days per week on Mondays and Thursdays. For this reason, candidates must be based in the Greater Seattle Area or willing to relocate.
Your Responsibilities:
-
Assist with computing and reviewing the worldwide tax provision for quarterly and annual reporting
-
Manage month-end close cadence for tax accruals and reserves
-
Collaborate with external advisors to manage the preparation and review of Rover's federal and state income tax returns, ensuring accurate and timely filings of both corporate and partnership filings
-
Own and enhance tax modeling and forecasting, including cash tax projections, ETR analysis, and scenario planning
-
Assist in managing tax audits and controversy
-
Support transfer pricing implementation and documentation
-
Act as a strategic business partner by assisting with implementation of tax planning opportunities, process improvements, and risk minimization processes
-
Monitor current and proposed US and foreign tax law changes to identify and assess impact on the organization
-
Support M&A activity, including tax due diligence and post-close integration
-
Assist with distribution calculations (E&P, etc.) and related partner reporting
-
Research and draft tax policy memos documenting tax issues and positions
-
Lead or support special tax projects, as needed
